hello diary!! today i wanted to write about...

one of my favorite songs of all time, but also one of my favorite vincent songs (but also one of my favorite songs in general): my manic and i by laura marling!

please give it a listen if you never have. im no good at describing genre but it's.. acoustic guess? im bad at describing what songs sound like. its an acoustic folk song about loving somebody that experiences mania, simplified down. if you couldn't tell by the title!

i first heard this song years ago as a teenager, probably back in 2020? and i thought it was kind of incredible, and it became one of my favorite songs. this entire time it's stayed one of my favorite songs in my rotation even though it's a bit of a damper mood wise.

and by a bit of a damper i mean it's sad. but it's good! but it's sad.

now you may be saying, "v, you said this was a vincent song?" and yes i did! but i felt the need to praise the song and get you to (hopefully) listen to it before i apply it to my fictional blorbo. please listen to it. okay.

i don't have a particularly long analysis beyond associating a few lyrics mostly with his in-canon death because i'm silly like that, specifically the line:

which to me is fitting for a man who died in an abandoned aquarium cult, and whose death likely outweighed his legacy in entertainment given how gorey/extravagent that it was! we also have:

which again is pretty fitting for a character who is literally drawn at some point as being blinded by light/blinded by others. i dont want to sound like that "perchance" essay so im going to stop just repeating what the lyrics say

yeah i mean that's pretty self explanatory i think. not also including vincent's monologue towards the end of brighter directed at his cult; where he believes in the god of entertainment/the concept of tv? listen man im trying to extrapolate meaning from hazbin hotel you have to bear with me. i just find the entire concept of vincents cult fascinating because we know very little about it. we only know 100% that it's a cult because it's referred to it as that way earlier on in s2. genuinely he was just yelling at people in a wet room about entertainment. why? we.. dont know. we probably never will.

if i were to guess i would assume he gained a cult following from broadcasting snuff on air (which i guess you could just fucking do in the 50s?); the cult couldve sprung up from people enjoying seeing unsantized content on tv, latching onto vincent as like, 'only guy on tv thats not just showing cooking show reruns or whatever people are watching in the 50s'. i mean if you were there and your options were either the news or the same sitcoms or. getting to see people die. youd probably choose seeing people die.

tldr i really love this song and this is my favorite lyric fromi t:
